Whispir Bespoke Typefaces

This year, the design team at Whispir set out to create two typefaces which captured the business's evolving identity as a global technology company with ambitious plans. We partnered with Colophon Foundry to develop a type family that answered to the robust communication needs of our business, whilst feeling contemporary and engaging.

Digital Type Specimen.

With the collaboration close to completion and print specimen production underway, I began designing and building an online type specimen to showcase the faces, including an interactive test drive utility.

Type tester utility.

Here the user can select which typeface they want to sample, refresh the quote, change the point size of the text and edit the sample as they wish. They can also choose from a selection of background colours.

Printed Type Specimen.

Colophon presented some concepts to us for the narrative of the printed specimen. We decided to go with the theme of 'Duality: An instance of opposition or contrast between two concepts or two aspects of something; a dualism.'

Capisce and Motivo become a partnership of both differences and similarities. With this constant conflicting narrative, it leads to alternative thinking with materiality, content and structure.

The specimen takes the form of a double saddle stitched booklet with a Z-fold cover, representing the close relationship and balance of two core elements of our identity. Both fonts are presented in one book, with content collated into halves. These halves question and generate discussion between both Capisce and Motivo.
